仮定法未来は、未来の出来事に対する仮定を表現する際に使われる文法形式です。実現可能性の程度によって、主に2つの形があります。 (1) If + 主語 + should + 動詞の原形 ～ , [帰結節] 意味： 未来の実現可能性が低いことを表します。ただし、絶対に起こりえないことの仮定には使いません。 帰結節： would、should、mightのほか、直説法や命令法も使われます。これは、話し手が実際にその可能性を考慮しているため、現実的な対応や指示を表現できるからです。 《例文》 If our flight should be delayed by more than two hours, we would miss the connecting flight. 万が一フライトが2時間以上遅れるようなことがあれば、乗り継ぎ便に間に合わないだろう。 If the weather should turn bad during our trip, we have a backup plan. 旅行中に万が一天気が悪くなったら、代替プランがあります。 If I should die unexpectedly, please donate my body to science. 万が一突然死ぬようなことがあれば、私の体は献体してください。 (2) If + 主語 + were to + 動詞の原形 ～ , [帰結節] 意味： (1)よりさらに現実性が乏しく、まず起こり得ない、可能性がほぼゼロの仮定を表します。 帰結節： would、should、mightが使われます。 《例文》 If the sun were to rise in the west, I would not betray you. たとえ太陽が西から昇っても、私は君を裏切らない。 There is a great likelihood that all mankind would be annihilated if a full-scale nuclear war were to break out. もし全面核戦争が起こったら、全人類が絶滅する公算が大きい。 If I were to becom...

mannerism [mǽnərìzm] … (言動などの) 癖、特徴、(芸術などの) 型にはまった手法、芸風、マンネリズム … a person's particular way of talking or moving He has an annoying mannerism of tapping his fingers while he talks. 彼には話しながら指で机などをトントンとたたく嫌な癖がある。 He is a good imitator of the mannerism of great violinists, but he has no style of his own. すぐれたバイオリン奏者の技法をまねるのはうまいが、自分のスタイルを持っていない。 I'm getting sick and tired of that TV personality's mannerism. あのタレントの芸もマンネリで鼻についてきた。 ◆ 日本語のいわゆる「マンネリ」は rut や groove で表す マンネリになる … get into a rut、get stuck in a rut、fall into a rut マンネリになっている … be in a rut、be stuck in a rut マンネリから抜け出す … get out of a rut、break out of a rut Trying new things keeps you from getting into a rut. 新しいことに挑戦すればマンネリ化を防げる。 The TV show fell into a groove and was discontinued. そのテレビショーはマンネリ化したので打ち切りになった。

基本的な用法 要求、提案、依頼、勧告 などの動詞の後のthat節で使用 重要、必要、願望、当然 などの形容詞の後のthat節で使用 事実が確定していないため、 that節の動詞は原形 になる 参考： that節内の動詞が原形になる件について よく使われる動詞 ask demand insist recommend request suggest urge propose よく使われる形容詞 essential important necessary natural urgent vital advisable desirable 肯定文の例 He requested that the error be corrected. 彼は誤りを訂正してほしいと頼んだ。 （実際に訂正されたかどうかは不明） The doctor recommended that my son eat more. 医者は私の息子にもっとたくさん食事をとるように勧めた。 （実際に食事をたくさんとるようになったかどうかは不明） The policeman insisted that he sign the statement. 警官は彼に供述書に署名せよと迫った。 （実際に署名したかどうかは不明） It was necessary that he finish the job by the following day. 彼は翌日までにその仕事を終わらせる必要があった。 （実際に仕事が終わったかどうかは不明） It is essential that every child have the same educational opportunities. すべての子供が同じ教育の機会を得ることがぜひとも必要である。 （実際にそのような機会が得られているかどうかは不明） It is natural that she be angry. 彼女が怒ったとしてもそれは当然のことだ。 （実際に怒っているかどうかは不明） 否定文の例 I suggest that he not go alone. 彼一人で行かない方がよいと私は提案する。 It is importan...
