Some people say, "Anybody would be better than him/her," to express their complaints about the leader of some organization. However, they should remember they said the same thing about the previous leader, and they will also do that with the next one.

It would be great if things could get better and better gradually through the replacement of leaders, but people sometimes want to get back to the past. In such cases, people say, "The previous leader was better than the current one."

Thus, things never change at all.

過去の習慣や反復を表す would と used to の違い

仮定法過去での would の用例 If I were taller, I would play basketball. もっと背が高ければ、バスケットボールをやるんだけど。 (実際には背が高くないので、バスケットボールはやらない) 参考： 「もし～ならば」という仮定や条件を表す文（英語） 過去の習慣や反復を表す would の用例 When I was on the school soccer team, I would score at least one goal per game. 学校のサッカーチームにいたとき、1試合で少なくとも1本はゴールを決めてたよ。 この文の would は used to と交換可能。過去の習慣について話す場面などでは、used to ばかり使っていると話が単調になるので、would も混ぜて使うとよい。 過去について話す場合の would と used to の違い would が使えるのは動詞が 動作を表す場合 だけで、used to は動詞が 動作を表す場合 も 状態を表す場合 もどちらでも使える。 I used to visit my sister twice a week. NHKラジオ講座「ラジオビジネス英語」に出てきた表現のうち、番組内で特にしっかり説明されていないけれども、日常会話で使えそうなものを取り上げます。 今回は get a feel for  です (2021年4月12日放送分)。NHKのテキストでは、 get a good feel for (～の感覚・イメージをしっかりつかむ) として次の文で使われていました。 That way, customers can get a good feel for the neighborhood. そうすることで、顧客は近所の雰囲気を感じることができますね。 get a feel for  は結局のところ、何かの「感じ」(feel) を「手に入れる」(get) ということで、なにも難しいことはありません。 「～の感じをつかむ、～に慣れてこつをつかむ」 などと訳されています。例文を以下にいくつか挙げておきます。 You will get a feel for English by reading it over and over. 何度も何度も読んでいるうちに英語の勘が養われます。 I finally got a feel for the part at today's rehearsal. 今日のリハーサルでやっと役の感触がつかめました。 You must get a feel for the arena before the competition. 試合の前に競技場に慣れておく必要があります。
