NHKラジオビジネス英語に出てきた表現 — take one's sweet time

2021年3月29日から始まったNHKラジオ講座「ラジオビジネス英語」に出てきた表現を取り上げます。 今回は take one's sweet time (ゆっくり時間をかける、たっぷり時間をかける)  です (2021年3月30日放送分)。この表現には、時間をかけすぎであることを揶揄するニュアンスが含まれているようです。 Merriam-Webster Learner's Dictionaryには、この表現の意味が次のように説明されています。 “If you take your sweet time about doing something, you do it slowly even though other people want you to do it more quickly. ” つまり 「もっと早くしてほしいと思われているのにゆっくりやる」 ということです。NHKのテキストには次の会話が載っています。 Michael: Please don't draw this one out! マイケル: このミーティングは長引かせないでくださいね。 Sylvia: Don't worry.
