Christmas in July? (from my Lang-8 posts)

I've read in a web article that, in Australia, people celebrate Christmas in July as well as in December.

According to the article, Christmas in December is in the hot season in Australia. Therefore people want to have a Christmas party in the cold season as people in the northern hemisphere do.

I wonder how common celebrating Christmas in July is among Australian people.

発音の違い：breathとbreadth、withとwidth

発音記号の違い breath [bréθ] ←→ breadth [brédθ] with [wíð] ←→ width [wídθ] 母音の長さ breath と breadth の母音はどちらも [é]  で、with と width の母音はどちらも [í]  であり、見た目は同じなのだが、breadth と width ではその後の [d] の発音に備えて母音がわずかに長くなる。 breadth と width での子音の移行 舌を上の歯の裏側にくっつけて [d] を発音する（このとき舌と歯にさえぎられて空気の流れが一瞬止まる）。その後、舌を上の歯と下の歯の間から出して  [θ] を発音する（このとき舌と歯の間から空気が抜ける）。 発音のコツ（英語の発音をあえてカタカナで説明） breadth の場合、まず bread を発音してみる。「ブレッド」と最後の d まで発音せずに、その手前の「ブレッ」で止める。このときの舌の位置が d の発音の位置。そこから舌をわずかに下に動かして、上の歯と下の歯の間から出し、空気を抜きながら th を発音する。 width の場合も、まず wid を発音してみる。「ウィッ」で止めた舌の位置が d の発音の位置。その後、上の歯と下の歯の間から舌を出し、空気を抜きながら th を発音する。 舌を d の位置から th の位置までなめらかに移動できるように、ゆっくりと繰り返し練習する。
