brittle と fragile の使い分け
● brittle … 堅いが弾力性がなく、叩くとひび割れたり、粉々になったりする性質のもろさ、壊れやすさを表す。
This glass is brittle.
このグラスは割れやすい。
Your bones have grown brittle with age.
あなたは年を取って骨がもろくなっている。
● fragile … 構造が繊細（脆弱）で、特に注意して取り扱わなければならない壊れやすさを表す。
As you get older, your bones become fragile.
年を取ると骨がもろくなる。
My mind was healed by the fragile flowers in the garden.
庭に咲く華奢な花々に心が癒された。
Life is as fragile as a butterfly's wings.
命というのは蝶の羽のようにもろいものだ。
※ brittle であるものは fragile でもあると言えるが、fragile であるものが brittle であるとは限らないことに注意が必要。たとえば、a fragile flower とは言うが、a brittle flower とは言わない。
